A Dream........A ChanceHave you ever dreamed of doing something different? Have you ever wondered if you could? should? Wondered who would support you? If your dream was "worthy"?
Two of my favorite books helped me answer the above questions with enough courage to step out of the "human service world" and go after my dreams. Dr. Seuss "The Sneetches" is about two groups of beings that have only one difference between them - stars. Through a process of many different things, and sometime expensive options, they discover that they don't need those stars as they are not important - supporting and being with other is. The second book is by Dr. Bruce Wilkenson "The Dream Giver" in his parable the main character finds a white feather and feels that he has been called to follow his dream. He leaves behind all that is familiar and all that is the norm, deals will bullies, travels sometimes not sure where he is going, has champions, those who encourage as he seeks and finds what his dream is...... And that is where I find myself... realizing it does not matter what I look like, feel but that I support others and that while there are different things that occur as one goes after their dream - they can still get there. |

I have a Bachelors Degree (BA) in Special Education from Slippery Rock University and a Master's in Health Education (M.Ed) - with a specialty in low literacy from Penn State University. I have over 30 years of experiences within the Human Service field from case management, supervisor, director and administrator for different things such as sheltered workshop, group homes, foster homes, RTFs, educating county programs on specialty services and working as the health educator for the best hospital in the United States - Johns Hopkins.
Now how in the world did I get to this dream? The path has not always been clearand at times got very muddy. I realized, after leaving 30 years of Human Resources, that many of the skills I had from those jobs and the education, that I had a unique way of thinking and seeing things. I realized that many of the tools and skills I developed could be taught to and help others. I stepped out on FAITH and decided that I would work with Direct Sales Companies. I knew I did not have any basis of understanding how these worked, but I am very good at researching different things. After research, talking with others, trying things, I began to do some "counseling", "problem solving", exploration of dreams, and other things to help individuals that may have never done this type of thing before and just need someone to bounce things off of. To this end, I discovered that I continue to enjoy helping others so I planned events, organized shows, develop informative Facebook groups and was asked to start working on some business friends website.... a long and winding road to be sure. |
